This book features a selection of the best papers presented at two recent conferences organized by the SIEV (Italian Society of Appraisal and Valuation). Taking into account the current need for evaluative skills in order to make effective and sustainable investments, it highlights the multidisciplinary role of valuation, which opens the door for interactions with other sectors, scientific and professional fields. The book collects twenty-two papers, divided into three parts (Territory & Urban Planning, Real Estate Assets & the Construction Building Process, Real Estate Finance & Property Management) that reflect the main issues of interest for future urban development policies, namely: feasibility analysis for investments; selecting which decision support models to apply in complex contexts; enhancement of public and private assets; evaluating the effects produced by territorial investments; valuation approaches to properties; risk assessment; and strategies for monitoring energy consumption and soil sealing.

In complex natural resource systems, modifications or disruptions tend to affect many and diverse components of the ecological system, settlements and groups of people. This book uses the Lagoon of Venice - a unique natural resource, wildlife habitat, centre of cultural heritage and recreational site - as an example of one such system that has been heavily affected by human activities, including the harvesting of natural resources and industrial production. The contributors explore the Lagoon's potential for regeneration, examining public policies currently under consideration. The book consists of seventeen papers in two parts. The first part, "Values and Relational Systems in Multicultural Societies", features how social sciences--including appraisal and valuation, urban planning, philosophy, psychology, and geography--take different approaches to studying values and relationships, converging to form a unified mosaic of complementary and interconnected knowledge. The second part, "Permeability and Permanence of Values in a Contemporary Multicultural City", highlights the most crucial topics on which appraisals and models focus to interpret and represent the influence of migration on the real estate market in different urban and territorial contexts, from historical centers, small towns, to tourist cities, also taking into account sustainability, maintenance and regeneration of cities.

In particular, the book explores the need for a rethinking of development models proposed by the circular economy which requires the valorization of natural, social and economic capital. By the identification of specific parameters, characterizing the building in terms of layout typology, technical features and services provision, it proposes a framework for the collection of relevant information to current regulations and standards. Integrated evaluation tools are developed to perform first a technical assessment of the investigated building, basing on the survey of its key features and on the codification of standard actions. Then, appraisal procedure valuates intervention cost from the similarity degree between the object of analysis and a set of interventions already performed on healthcare assets. The book offers a valuable tool for technical professionals, public administrations and healthcare managers engaged in maintenance and performance assessment of healthcare facilities.
